NBT Registrations are Now Open!

Dear students,

What is a National Benchmark Test (NBT) Information?

The National Benchmark Test (NBT) is a standardized assessment used by South African universities to assess the academic readiness of prospective students for higher education.

Where to Write:

NBTs are typically administered at designated test centers across South Africa. Check the official NBT website or contact your preferred university for specific test center locations.

How to Register:

Registration for the NBT can usually be done online through the official NBT website. Follow the registration instructions provided and ensure you meet all deadlines.

When to Register

Registration deadlines vary depending on the test date and university application deadlines. It is advisable to register as early as possible to secure your preferred test date.

Cost:

The cost of the NBT may vary depending on the number of tests taken and administrative fees. Writing just the AQL test costs R175. Writing both the AQL and MAT costs R350.Please note that The Academic and Quantitative Literacy (AQL) Test is compulsory for anyone who applies to write the NBT but the Mathematics (MAT) Test is mostly written by STEM subject students (subjects with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Both tests are written on the same day. The AQL is written in the first session and the MAT is written in the second session.

Must I pay for a rescheduled test?

If a test session is cancelled by the NBT Project and rescheduled for any reason and you are currently registered and have paid, you do not have to pay to write a rescheduled test.

However, if you reschedule the test, you must pay again.

How do I pay?
All NBT fees must be paid through EasyPay. Take your NBT registration letter with you to an EasyPay Paypoint near you to pay. You may also pay on the EasyPay website and then print out your receipt.

EasyPay Paypoints are found across South Africa at food stores including Pick N Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, and Spar, as well as many other merchant sites.

Send confirmation of payment to the NBT Project by email:[email protected]

Include your 14-digit NBT Reference Number, your name and ID number when sending confirmation of payment.

NB. Your scores will not be released if the NBT Project does not receive proof of payment.

Online Registration:

Yes, candidates can typically register for the NBT online through the official NBT website.

Procedure to Get Results:

Your results are uploaded to your NBT account approximately four weeks after your tests, by 12 noon on the date listed on the NBT Test Schedule.
